Christmas Carols for a Cause

Christmas Carols for a Cause Presented By George Hill

Thursday - 12 December - 10h45

his year we will be entertained with carols by Jean-Paul on the piano, Mike (baritone) and they will be accompanied by a soprano singer.

We will be gathered to sing along to Christmas carols in aid of supporting Where Rainbows Meet. They are a non-profit organization devoted to the Vrygrond and Cape Town communities.  Through programs, initiatives, and awareness events, they aim to improve the chances of people from the community and therefore offer people from the community the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience within the organisation.  Their activities provide the different groups of the community with information, education and support. The aim of these programmes is to encourage people to take responsibility for their own lives, their families, and the situation in the community. They are also equipped with enhanced working skills in order to decrease unemployment, which in turn will lower drug abuse, domestic violence, child neglect and other social ills.

Bookings are essential - Free seating

There is no charge for the carols but a donation box will be available for all those who wish to donate to this foundation.
Mince pies and tea/coffee will be available before the concert from Cucina Labia.

Fondazione Labia Drama Kids to Show Off Their Talents

Fondazione Labia Drama Kids to Show Off Their Talents

On Saturday 30th November, the Fondazione Labia Drama Kids will be performing their showcase for moms, dads and teachers at their school, Westlake Primary in Westlake. This marks the culmination of drama classes they have been attending at the Casa Labia Cultural Centre every Friday for the last two terms.

The Fondazione Labia has sponsored the drama classes for these 16 learners, aged 9 to 12, who have enjoyed their taste of the world of theatre. The programme, run by Celia Musikanth and Coleen van Staden of Circle Productions, includes mime, character work, movement and basic vocal training and every aspect is done in a fun and accessible way and is perfect as an introduction to the performing arts.

The showcase will include a variety of items that highlight what they have learned. The magic of an audience is a perfect way to end this wonderful opportunity that the Fondazione Labia has afforded these enthusiastic youngsters and they are keen to show off their talents.

LEAPS (established 2008) is a registered, non-profit animal welfare organisation that is dedicated to helping animals in need in the areas of Elands Bay, Lamberts Bay and Vredenburg up the West Coast, 220 km from Cape Town (those areas that are often forgotten).

Our goal is to help all those in need over this busy Christmas, so that LEAPS can make sure all these animals have a home and a family that will love and care for them and make them feel safe, valued, healthy and loved.

Why we have chosen LEAPS as this year's contribution:

 1. They educate township pet owners to better care for their pets and to assist with the medical needs of the animals. Education is key to ensure the wellbeing of township animals. They provide this education as well as medical assistance, particularly with regard to mass sterilisations, vaccinations, feeding programmes and providing shelter to hundreds of animals. They also provide food on an ongoing basis to those who cannot afford to feed their pets.

2. They rescue, rehabilitate and rehome unwanted and/or homeless animals. They are a foster-based organisation and have no shelter, that means they rely on volunteers to care for any unwanted animals whilst they find a suitable home for them. Before placing animals in foster care, they ensure the animal has received any vet care they may need (incl. vaccinations and sterilisation) and the foster family has been screened accordingly. Once a potential new family has completed the adoption process, the animal moves on to his/her forever home.

How can you help us?

Please drop off any items of dry or wet food for both dogs or cats! We will also collect any toys, blankets or carriers to assist with the many items LEAPS needs in order to keep their fur-babies happy and comfortable.

Collection times are from 15 November - 19th December 2019any time between Monday - Sunday between 08h00 - 16h00, but please do get in touch with us if a special time needs to be arranged for you. Please feel free to contact us on 021 788 6068 or events@casalabia.co.za for any questions
